What a marvellous opener....

"What a wonderfully celebratory opening event for the London Olympics last night, hey?" says Daisy.

And Daisy has just spoken to her dear son in Australia who was in complete agreement with her on this matter.  A massive worldwide audience and a home television audience of 27 million viewers; and today the newspapers confirmed what we had already witnessed for ourselves - a brilliant opening entertainment to the 2012 London Olympics.

Daisy thinks the very best part of the whole extravaganza was of HM The Queen parachuting out of the helicopter with Mr. James Bond in close attendance.

"Well done, Your Majesty, your performance was terrific" enthuses Daisy as she thinks back on last evening's television viewing.

"And congratulations to Mr. Danny Boyle on his direction of the event.  Yours was a most splendid
achievement, well done!"

So now we have all the sporting events to watch, and this weekend the Hungarian Grand Prix, and t he month of August to enjoy.

"Lets hope for some good weather, hey?" says Daisy blithely "after all, we ought to have a long warm and dry spell to ripen the corn, and to make ourselves feel good before the onset of autumn?  Unless, we might have a really super Indian summer to look forward to; but I'd rather have some good weather now, than wait even longer for some warmth and sunny days before September!" says Daisy!!!

Daisy's signing off now for she's had a long day and, did she tell you about the car boot sale they all attended today?

"You'll all have to wait for another day for that story" says Daisy....!

"Goodnight and byeeeee for now!"

Walking the dogs....

Daisy and the dogs out for a walk with the pedometer firmly clipped on to her trousers; picking up litter from the village playing field and enjoying the sunshine.  But why must people leave their litter scattered everywhere, leaving it for others to pick up?  It's a great pity.

On arriving home, Daisy discovered her pedometer was missing and could only assume it had fallen off as she was litter collecting.  The bending over was fine but the loss of her pedometer was a blow.  They searched for it everywhere this morning, on their early morning walk, but it was nowhere to be found.

"We're doing a car boot sale tomorrow" says Daisy "so lets hope we have another fine day ?"

"And the Hungarian Grand Prix is on, and the Olympic Games too!"  "what great fun?" says Daisy.

For everyone with tickets for the Games this weekend, Daisy wishes you a good seat and happy viewing.

Bye for now,

Daisy

Pedometer alive and well.......

"Ah ha, my pedometer is all systems go again, thank goodness, and it's clocking up the steps again.
We're out early and late with this heat, for the dogs do not like walking  in the noon-day sun, when it's pretty hot!"  says Daisy.

And Daisy has now taken part in her third Zumba class.  "My gosh, it was so hot last night, so we had quite a few sloooow routines, which was splendid!" quips Daisy.

And Daisy is so pleased summer has, seemingly arrived, and is loving the better weather. She has been gardening for friends, dead heading the roses, and weeding and clearing up generally.  When not gardening, she's been to Bletchley, the home of WW2 code breakers, out on forays to local beauty spots, pretty village tea shops and book shops, and generally enjoying the summer.

Daisy hopes you are also enjoying the better weather and getting out and about - when not at work, of course?!!!

Oh dear....2

"My pedometer has stopped working; I guess it's the battery?" says Daisy.

"What a nuisance!   I shall have to return once more to the store and ask for another exchange?" queries Daisy.

Is it built-in obsolescence or just bad luck, err, Daisy's picked the dud pedometer?  Ah well, better luck next time, hey?

Daisy meant to get out for an early walk and here she still is, typing away.  And the clouds outside are gathering momemtum.....guess she'd better get going, N OW!

Oh dear.......

Daisy says "only 5363 steps today; even walking about the garden, weeding and tidying-up, and only one doggie walk".

Must do  better tomorrow!   "But!" says she "I can't run before I can walk, and I've another Zumba class on Wednesday, for which I must be fit, so gently does it, then I'll be fine!!!"

Daisy's wondering if others out there are doing the walking diet too?

"Hope it's going well?!"

Goodnight

hey there! Daisy calling...

"Did I tell you about the Zumba class Daisy attended last Wednesday evening.  Her first class for a long time!  It was great fun and can't wait to go again!  It's great!" says Daisy!!!!

We've just watched that gorgeous film - The Time Traveller's Wife - which Daisy says is one of her all time greats!.  It's up there with Gone with The Wind, Casablanca, Shenandoah and Colonel Blimp - to name just a few of the very best  films ever seen and loved by Daisy.

Daisy wonders what great films you guys out there love???

And, guess what.............? ah but its late.  Daisy thinks she'll keep this news for another day.  Too much excitement on any one day is just too much, don't you just know what I mean,  guys!!!

B ye, bye for now xxxx

Daisy's week.........

A spot of recovery was required after last weekend. In fact, a week long spot of recovery, after the wedding, the Christening and the rain-drenched drive to London last Saturday evening.

Daisy asks "why, oh why do people believe they may continue to drive as fast as they do on rain sodden roads, as presumably they do on dry roads?  Don't they think it just plain silly to drive in horrendous conditions, when the rain and window-spray renders it impossible to clearly see vehicles in front of them, let alone madly  overtake other cars going at more reasonable speeds?"

And it continued to rain on and off, and mostly on, at the very worst moments for our activities, over the entire weekend.

"It was smashing when the sun shone and the rain stopped, and we could be outside, for the photographs of the bridal party and her retinue; and for the guests emerging from the church after the Christening!" remembers Daisy.

During our week of recovery, we've celebrated a birthday at a favourite country pub, dined out again the next evening because we'd had a busy day and nobody felt like cooking supper, and yesterday spent the day at splendid museum.

"After lunch of course, and followed later, by tea at a favourite bookshop,  phew!"  said Daisy "and, of course, we don't always enjoy such a social whirl; but it's fun occasionally!!!"

"And now it's the weekend again, what fun???

What a lovely weekend!!!!

"Hey, it's Thursday already, and we're only just over last weekend!!" says Daisy "And what a wonderful weekend it was, too?"

"The flowers were just glorious" says Daisy "and still holding their own, don't you think so?"

Friday steps before the weekend....

Daisy progressed thru' to 8038 steps yesterday which was rather amazing because that number did not encompass many doggie walks.  Only one such outing, to be precise, because of the shopping and cooking which had to be fitted in.

And today, the wedding day, what will that produce in the way of forward footstep production?   There will certainly be one outing with the dogs, and a little kitchen work this morning, cooking up a storm for the afternoon.  And lets hope that's the only storm on our horizon for today!!

Any wow, no rain in sight just now; surely enough rain fell yesterday to satisfy even the most enthusiastic wet weather person?

"Well, it's lovely chatting but there's things to be getting on with, and preparations for the Christening tomorrow, so I guess quite a good number of steps will  accumulate over the next two days?!!" thinks Daisy "which is great!!!" she concludes.

Bye bye for now, and enjoy your weekend, whatever you're doing?

Only 7891 steps yesterday!

Daisy had a basket of ironing to do yesterday, but walked with the dogs several times, but probably  not quite long enough.

A visit to the vet was necessary for Alice, who has been found to have a few lumps which needed to be investigated; and now we're waiting on the vet for test results from samples taken during her inspection.

And a spell of baby sitting during the wedding rehearsal.   Baby slept beautifully so Daisy was able to indulge in a spot of ER and then an episode of Dr. Who.......isn't Sky great!!!

And as supper had to be late, we watched  Country House Rescue as we ate, and Daisy was not impressed with the attitude of the incumbents.  Such a splendid house......

So today, Daisy has already done 2800 steps, which is a good start.  However, it was a very wet walk and no doubt the dogs will only just dry off before the next one!  But hey ho, it's only rain and better rain here today than tomorrow, for the wedding day.  Perhaps if it rains enough today, it just might be less rain tomorrow?

"One can hope, can't one?" Daisy asks!!

Mind you, we really don't want too much rain this afternoon, either, for Andy Murry is playing this afternoon, and it would be just fine and dandy for him to win again today!!!!

Getting better!!!

Daisy has walked 8621 steps today, encompassing two doggie walks and walks about the house and garden.  These latter walks occasioned by the fearful strain of watching, and wanting, Andy Murry, to win his match this afternoon.

I just could not sit still, watching all the time, without simply having to get up and occupy my thoughts with action - a necessary break!  One gets so fearful...!

Anyway, he won - Daisy was thrilled.   And Federer - isn't he gorgeous?

So much movement and walking.  Out again, late pm, which is so good for the body whole, and spirit.

Two more days before the weekend to get in some serious movement, hopefully?  The weekend might be difficult, for Daisy has a family wedding and her grandson's Christening to attend, so two very busy days.   I guess there will be much exercise and walking throughout the occasions, so the walking should continue, apace, which is excellent!!

Daisy will keep you posted!!!

Daisy

Pedometerabled!

"Ah ha!" says Daisy !I can make my pedometer work for me, at last!"

Daisy notched up 7997 steps yesterday with just two walks, and identified the long uninterrupted space for testing her Optimal Walking Pace (OWP) and her Break Point (BP).

Brilliant!

Now we're getting somewhere!

Pedometer and away.....

So yesterday Daisy bought her pedometer.  It's not the first she's bought but hopefully the last, as this time she'll be making trebly sure she knows how it works, and more tellingly, how to make it work.

She couldn't find any light walking shoes so she's sticking with her older ones, until she finds out far she's going to take this extra walking!

So apart from the usual doggie walk yesterday afternoon, Daisy also made a 30-minute walk which notched up 3900 steps, which was rather good.  Now for the next three days, Daisy has to amalgamate all three-day's total step count and then divide by three to find out her baseline walk count.  Less than 5,000 steps per day defines a sedentary lifestyle.  Apparently the goal is to reach 7,500+ daily steps.  So, ho ho, to that!!

It's a grey old day out there and before another walk time, Daisy must sort out some accounting, and a little paperwork, before lunch time.

For now, it's coffee and calculator time, and she'll let you know later on, how the rest of her day has gone.

Sunday evening weekend review.........

It was a great weekend and, for us, Saturday was a beautiful summery day.  Some cloud, a summer shower, a little breeze to toss the smoke about, and a lovely hot summer's afternoon.  A large garden filled with billowing hedges to shelter behind helped enormously, and a wide expanse of lawn for the little ones to run upon and for elder cousins to cavort about, were most accommodating.

The bbq got off to a rather shaky start but soon the tasty waft of sausages, burgers and kebabs eased our worries, as we tucked into our garden feast.

The numerous puddings were delicious, the Pimm's refreshing, and the company lively and pleasing.  We had a glorious afternoon on a lovely summer's day.

More of these please, thinks Daisy, and for everybody else too!!

My son and daughter-in-law were off to Berlin today for their European jaunt and I'm sure they will have a smashing time.

And the horizontal rain that fell over London today is just a hazy memory and we can't allow a little rain to spoil our summer, can we?  So let's make hay while the weather decides if it's spring, summer or autumn, and enjoy our lovely respite from winter time.

"Hip hip hooray for summer time" says Daisy "and more bbqs, please?"

Daisy walked back home from the station today, a 40-minute walk in the evening sunshine and it was a good way to kick-off her plan to walk for 30 minutes each day, to get fit for the winter!

She's  following the advice of The Telegraph's Joanna hall and doing The Walking Diet for the next 28 days, and hoping for great results!!!
